Hearing Rick Ross say, “Like a Hoss”, is the first thing that comes to mind when I see the label of this brew (don’t ask). Second is the feeling of Fall weather with the red flannel pattern and the gnarly looking dude standing tall with his axe in hand and pipe in mouth. Great Divide has the keen ability to tell a story through their labeling and packaging that gives each of their beers it’s own personality. I may not always be able to tell you the story of how the beer got its name, but I am pretty positive I am able to bring it to life for you. So if this the first time you are experiencing this beer, enjoy the read and then get yourself in touch with your inner Hoss by drink a ‘Hoss’ by Great Divide Brewing Company.
I always do enjoy a well-brewed Märzen this time of year so I am glad I woke that inner beast up with ‘Hoss’. Märzen is a German lager that is traditionally dark in color and is the burlier beer of the lager family. You begin to typically see these beers around Oktoberfest season. ‘Hoss’ certainly stayed true to the Märzen family with a nice rich dark amber body and dry finish.
This lager is fit for the Paul Bunyan’s of the world. Something to quench your thirst after a day of mowing over 200 foot Christmas Trees with your giant axe and hanging out with your huge Blue Ox. A strong flavor of malt, dark fruits and hint of cherry all compacted into a vibrant body that “is a toast to the sunsets that make the perfect backdrop for this beer” as so beautifully put by GDBC. I agree.
All the way to the last sip, your taste buds are engaged. I recommend having a back-up to really feel the power of this dark lager. It will undoubtedly make you want to put your Sunday’s Best flannel on, grab the nearest axe and just stand with pride while the sun sets on your ‘Hoss-omeness’ (play on words, check). Once again, Great Divide Brewing Company packs a bottle with damn good beer. Not only packing the bottle with damn good beer, but also for dressing them up with such creativity. We figured the least we can do is return the favor.
As Rick Ross was once quoted saying, “Great Divide can brew beer ‘Like a Hoss’! WHOOP!” Look it up… Actually don’t worry about it, just take our word for it.
A huge shoutout to the Hoss of Hosses, my brother Josh Dobeck, for once again being a part of our Showcase! WHOOP!

Another excellant Showcase my friends! I’m a huge fan of Great Divide Brewing Company (I have yet to drink any of their “Yeti” Stouts that I didn’t like!) and Hoss is one of the better “Rye” Lagers/Beers on the craft beer market.
